Tetra C: What Is It And How Does It Work?

You may already be familiar with vitamin C and all of its benefits for not only our skin but our overall health.

It helps to brighten our skin, keep our cells healthy and is highly moisturising too, but have you ever heard of Tetra C?

What Is Tetra C?

Whilst it has all of these amazing benefits, vitamin C can be hard to stabilise when formulating skincare products and may not always be practical for topical applications. But, this is where we get introduced to Tetra C.

Modern technology has allowed us to create a liquid and lipid-soluble vitamin C derivative, named Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate - or Tetra C for short. This has been created by modifying the molecular structure vitamin C itself, in order to maintain all of its fantastic properties.

Benefits of Tetra C

Stable Against Heat And Light

Vitamin C is very reactive, and is susceptible to both heat and light, meaning that when it is exposed to either it can deactivate its antioxidant properties. This usually means that to keep its properties stable, vitamin C has got to be stored in cool, dark places. However, this isn’t the case for Tetra C! This vitamin C derivative is actually stable against heat and light, meaning that you don’t have to worry about how or where it is stored, it will maintain all of its amazing benefits!

Able To Penetrate Skin Deeper

As it is fat-soluble, Tetra C has the ability to penetrate the skin up to three times deeper than water soluble Vitamin C. This means that it works from further into your skin, bringing you better results.

Protects Against Cell Damage

Studies have shown that when tested against other vitamin C derivatives, the protective effects of Tetra C are higher.

Helps Blemishes

A study was performed where a topical gel containing 10% Tetra C was applied to 15 patients with acne for a time period of 1-3 months. It concluded that most patients had an improvement in their skin of 50% or more.

Promotes Collagen Synthesis

Tetra C has the ability to drastically inhibit the activity of collagen degrading enzymes, and significantly promotes collagen synthesis, meaning that it is a great anti ageing ingredient!

UV Protection

Studies have shown that the protective effect of Tetra C in regards to UV, is higher than that of Vitamin C due to the fact that the conversion rate of Tetra C into the cells is higher than that of Vitamin C.
